The client:
Marine Search & Rescue— Victorian Coast Guard

  • These rescue groups are made up of very dedicated, highly-trained volunteers who often put their own lives on the line to help others. They are extremely humble and don’t see their work as anything unusual or worth talking about. But recruitment numbers were dwindling, and it was proving difficult to create more community awareness with a lack of content or spokespeople.

  • Create a strategic communications plan to raise awareness of the incredible work and opportunities with Coast Guard and MSAR, including documents and templates that volunteers can use for years to come. Part of this was delivering media training and basic writing coaching for all the volunteers. After a full assessment (and with the help of a government grant), we engaged a media training team to assist in delivering three media training sessions across the state. Volunteers learned what was newsworthy, how to pitch their stories and write their accounts for EDMs, and why that was important to Coast Guard. They even got some time on camera!

Happy client words:

Audrey, thank you for your time, guidance and dedication to our members/flotillas while working with the Marine Search and Rescue sector. Everyone you came in contact with was enriched by your knowledge and enthusiasm. They learnt valuable media skills that they can apply to promote themselves in their local communities. Thank you for sharing media documents that I know will be used well into the future
